Your Breathwork Questions, Answered
-
Breathwork is the practice of bringing conscious awareness to your breath and intentionally changing its rhythm. Your breath can become a bridge between how you feel and how you’d like to feel, inviting energy, calm, or a deeper connection with yourself.
Think of restorative breathing as finding your nervous system’s OFF switch and turning it ON: an invitation to soften the constant doing and make room for rest.
In my journeys, I guide you through activating and restorative breathing, creating space to explore what you’re feeling, release tension, and return to your center.

Breathwork may support relaxation, greater awareness of your feelings, and a stronger connection with the present moment. With practice, you may begin noticing tension or familiar reactions sooner, giving yourself more space to pause and respond with intention.
Some people leave a journey feeling lighter, clearer, or more connected to themselves. Others experience subtle shifts that unfold with time and reflection. Each experience is different, and no particular outcome is guaranteed. Breathwork is a supportive wellness practice and does not replace medical care or mental health treatment.

We begin by settling into the space, exploring what to expect, and setting a simple intention. I then guide you through rounds of breathwork, inviting you to connect with your body and honor your own pace.
The journey includes breathwork, energetic attunement, and restorative sound. After the breathing, you’ll have time to lie down and rest as I play the singing bowls, allowing space to settle and integrate before we gently close.
My longer journeys are approximately 75 minutes, while weekly classes are 60 minutes. Please check your event listing for the specific format and duration.

You may feel peaceful, joyful, tender, or emotional. Tears or laughter may arise, and feelings such as sadness, frustration, or fear can also come forward. You may simply feel quiet and relaxed.
There is no particular emotion you need to reach or release. I invite you to meet yourself with compassion, while remembering that you can pause whenever you need to. You never have to force an emotion or share anything you would prefer to keep private.
-
You may notice your thoughts becoming quieter, a fresh perspective, or a deeper sense of connection with yourself. Some people experience vivid imagery or meaningful insights. Others notice their mind wandering, especially when the practice is new.
There is no particular state you need to reach or meaning you need to find. You’re simply invited to notice what arises, with curiosity and without judgment.
-
You are always welcome to slow down, stop the breathing pattern, open your eyes, or change your position. Return to your natural breath and notice the support of the ground beneath you.
If you need assistance, raise your hand or let me know. You can rest for the remainder of the practice without returning to the active breathing. Honoring your limits is part of the journey, and you remain in charge of your participation throughout.
-
A meaningful journey doesn’t have to be dramatic. You do not need to cry, experience strong sensations, or have a breakthrough for your time on the mat to matter.
Sometimes the experience is simply an opportunity to pause and listen to yourself. Each journey can feel different, so try to let go of expectations or comparisons. There is nothing you need to perform or achieve.
-
Breathwork may be for you if you’re carrying stress, moving through change, seeking a deeper connection with yourself, or simply curious. You don’t need a particular problem to work through or a clear reason for coming.
No previous breathwork or meditation experience is necessary. I explain the breathing patterns before we begin and guide you throughout the journey, inviting you to honor your own pace. Please review the health considerations below to help determine whether activating breathwork is appropriate for you.
-
Your wellbeing comes first. While breathwork includes many gentle practices, the activating breathing and breath holds used in these journeys can be physically and emotionally intense.
If you are pregnant, have heart or cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, a seizure disorder, or have recently had surgery or a significant injury, please avoid the active practice unless your healthcare provider has specifically cleared it.
If you have a significant respiratory condition, a history of psychosis or mania, or panic attacks or trauma symptoms that are easily triggered, speak with your treating clinician before booking.
These are some of the considerations to discuss before participating. If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to reach out so we can explore whether a journey is the right fit, alongside guidance from your healthcare provider.
-
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to breathe and move freely. Hydrate throughout the day and avoid a heavy meal during the two hours before the journey, while honoring your individual health needs.
Bring water and any personal items that help you feel comfortable, such as a light layer, eye pillow, or journal. Check your event details to see whether mats, blankets, and cushions are provided.
You’re welcome to arrive with a simple intention, such as “rest,” “release,” or “connection,” but you don’t need to have one prepared. Give yourself a little extra time to settle in. You don’t need to come feeling calm or centered. Come as you are.
-
Give yourself a gentle transition back into your day. Drink water, eat when you’re ready, and allow time for rest or quiet reflection. Journaling or a gentle walk may help you explore anything you noticed.
You don’t need to make immediate decisions or find meaning in every part of the experience. If you feel unsettled, reach out for support. Persistent or worsening physical symptoms or emotional distress deserve attention from a qualified healthcare professional.
